Advanced Certificate in Coaching Practice

 

Our signature coach training course is the Advanced Certificate in Coaching Practice (ACCP), which has been developed and delivered to dozens of organisations since 2006, including universities (Edinburgh, Stirling, St Andrews, Herriot Watt, Dundee), the Scottish Government and many NHS Boards – at times partnering these agencies to broaden the experience beyond organisational boundaries.

Delivered both online and face to face, this four-month course dives deep into coaching theory and practice, with an emphasis on hands-on experience. Participants gain 20+ hours of coaching practice, access to our virtual learning environment which contains all course materials and a recognised coaching qualification which is regularly validated through the Association for Coaching.

For individuals wishing to train as a coach, we work in partnership with Mindful Talent to deliver the Transformational Coach, a 16 week blended learning experience that truly lives up to its name – not only will you gain coaching skills, theory and practice – and a recognised qualification, you will also gain a life-changing experience, as many of our former students have testified.

 

Coaching Approaches

This short programme can be delivered through flexible face to face or online zoom calls and is backed up by access to comprehensive supporting materials on the Acorn Principle Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). The course covers:

  • What coaching is and what it is not
  • Engage in the coaching approach through skills awareness and practice
  • Introduce a coaching conversational tool that provides a useful structure for working effectively with individuals and groups
  • Work on the principle of Reflection on action – drawing out the learning from the gap between each session.
  • Explore effective applications of the coaching approaches in both personal contexts and in the workplace.

The Connected Leader

Building on years of experience in leadership and management and study of leadership approaches, we bring a wealth of knowledge to working with small groups of leaders (both current and aspiring).

The Connected Leader adopts the Inspiring Partnership approach, blending teaching inputs based on contemporary leadership theory with coaching, accountability partners and clearly defined growth outcomes.

  • The Connected Leader begins with Connecting to self: the leader in me, acknowledging and building the foundation of emotionally intelligent leaders.
  • Connecting with others: leading teams explores how relationships are central to the leader's success' and this is complemented by exploration of 
  • Connecting to role: leading in the organisation, which deepens understanding of our relationship with those who lead us.
  •  Connection to purpose - leading in the wider world contextualises the fundamental impact of the leadership function, giving meaning to what we do and who we are as leaders.

Drawing on the research of a range of leadership thinkers including Daniel Goleman, Simon Sinek, Bob Chapman, Margaret Wheatley and David Rock (and many others), the Connected Leader makes practical application to participants' own situations.

The programme can be delivered within organisations to defined leadership teams or is open to those who wish to work with other leaders outside their organisations.

Delivery and duration will be negotiated with each organisation/group and will be supported by a dedicated Virtual learning Environment, providing participants with a wealth of supporting content to enhance their ongoing leadership growth.

CPD for Coaches/Organisations

Having trained 1000’s of coaches over the past 20 years, we recognise the need to ‘sharpen the saw’ on a regular basis – we know that many coaches are committed to maintaining a freshness and enthusiasm in their practice. In addition, professional registration and organisational expectations often require evidence of ongoing professional development. We meet this ongoing development need through a range of courses, one-off sessions and access to online content that supports individual and organisational coaches (including those who use a coaching approach such as managers, human resources professionals and organisational development professionals), mentors and consultants.
