Thanks to our clients for allowing us to share some examples of workplace initiatives delivered by Acorn Principle.
We have been working with Heriot Watt University since 2012 - here are some examples of what we've done.
“Coaching is the art of facilitating the performance, learning and development of another…the coach does not need to impart knowledge, advice or even wisdom. What he or she must do is speak, and act, in such a way that others learn and perform at their best.” Myles Downey, Effective Coaching, (2001)
Having listened to the OD Managers explain their desires for an in-house pool of coaches, we designed a practical, competency based training programme that was recognised by the Association for Coaching.
Delivery took 6 months with staff training 1 day per month and practising the skills within the workplace between sessions.
Heriot Watt continue to offer coaching as a follow on to development workshops (e.g. in career thinking and leadership) to support participants in implementing their personal goals from these sessions.
Acorn Principle are regularly invited to deliver short bespoke workshops to further develop the in-house coaching provision. Topics reflect the learning and development needs of the group and more personalised, individual support is offered through our Coach Supervision as required.
"Michele has been a major contributor to the success of implementing our in-house coaching service within Heriot-Watt University. We first approached Michele with an idea which then crystallised into a pilot cohort training programme for our first in-house coaches. The training was a combination of classroom based – group and individual sessions with lots of coaching practice, as well as tele-sessions by phone, online resources and a discussion forum. Michele’s style was perfect for our needs and the pilot programme was a great success with 12 trained and qualified coaches emerging. She has since delivered a training programme for a second cohort enabling us to offer coaching support to all our employees and leaders. We also engage Michele from time to time as an external coach when needs arise and have always received excellent feedback. She is passionate about the benefits of coaching; her approach is very practical with a real human touch. I would highly recommend Michele as a coach and coach trainer."
